It is still an instinct for him, one that pays off when over examining Josephine's every move (maybe to still reason to himself that this isn't Clarke anymore) becomes an awareness that something is off. That reflected what Clarke expected from them and what she was searching for.

Have we ever seen Clarke demonstrate this level of willingness to die for her people before? Then why isn't he here in this memory?
