Incorporating elements of electronica and industrial rock over time, Linkin Park always adapted to the changing tide of mainstream music around them, continuing to successfully remain one of the premier rock acts of the 2000s. Considered a band that embraces elements of Hard rock, blues, rock stoner, rock neo-psychedelia and also heavy metal, this Australian band provides a refreshing wave to the era when MC5, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Queensryche and Rush reigned supreme with songs like “Joker and the Thief,” “Dimension” and “In the Morning,”. However, in a decade saturated with generic and bland mainstream rock music, the Foo Fighters remained a shining light. I tried to incorporate songs from both the mainstream world and the indie world, so if you are a fan of one or the other, I'm sure there will be some major disagreements.
They made a handful of appearances on the main stage of Ozzfest over the years and had countless headlining tours of their own, add that to the never ending supply of singles the band put out and you have the reason they made the cut – even with their brief time during the decade. This list will feature bands that I feel left their mark on the worlds of rock and metal from 2000-2010.
So, here's the official 'list for the new year and after several solo efforts, I'm pleased to report that my collaborator and best friend Calvin "Oates" Cherry gave me his two cents on this 'list.
Add in the fact that they have one of the best, craziest, and most memorable live shows ever and you can’t deny them a spot on this list.
Each of these bands not only produced amazing work during the 2000s, but were also major players in the rock scene by innovating and influencing other bands and subgenres.
Both genres have taken some major turns, and to be quite honest, I prefer the older styles myself. I always have at least one surprise pick that makes my list, to many of you Rise Against may be it for this one. While the 2000s came and went, the best artists and bands of the period still remain.
Now that any newcomers know what is going on, lets get this thing started. The band has since regressed a little since they have not put out as many albums, but they are still heavy hitters on the scene. While the band put out their first studio album titled, Wolfmother in 2005, Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross, and Myles Heskett were the original trio that played together before officially playing as Wolfmother in 2004. Their intriguing blend of alternative rock with symphonic rock and electronica stood out from the rest of the boring guitar-drum based rock music that dominated rock radio during the 2000s.
While the band put out their first studio album titled, Wolfmother in 2005, Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross, and Myles When it comes to Australian rock bands that are solely from the 2000s to the present Wolfmother is one of them. For an Oz rocker band like Jet, selling over million albums says a lot about their ability to bring a flavour of rock music that is great for fans who enjoy garage rock, hard rock, alternative rock and indie rock. While their debut LP Hybrid Theory certainly was a standout amongst other nu metal works conceived around the same time period, Linkin Park was a group that evolved over time, becoming much more than the edgy red-headed rap-rockers that they appeared to be on the back cover of their debut. Certainly not (again, we'll get there soon). Three albums, platinum records, Grammy awards, hit singles on the radio, and sold out arena and stadium shows all over the world in the span of ten years isn’t too shabby. My parents actually wouldn’t let me hear the whole thing. And Cameron Muncey (lead guitar, vocals) and Mark Wilson (bass guitar, keyboards, harmonica, backing vocals) have been there from the beginning. Groups like the Bee Gees, The Easybeats, Men At Work did pave the way, but these bands have held their own. However, like with OK Computer, no one really could have known that the electronic experimentation of OK and Kid A would serve as a blueprint for the electronic influences that would weave their way into rock music down the road. They had already landed some pretty impressive shows, such as a spot on Ozzfest 2000 and were well on their way to the the top of the scene when the single “No One Knows” was released and changed everything.
Indeed, in 1994, Pat Davern (guitar), Joe Hansen (bass guitar), Phil Jamieson (vocals, guitar) and Kristian Hopes (drums) put together a band that would go on to put out seven studio albums. Whether it be the hauntingly robotic aesthetic of Kid A, the politically-charged yet subtle Hail to the Thief, or the lusciously explosive In Rainbows, Radiohead cemented their place in rock history with albums that consistently attempted to explore the band's sonic potential throughout the 2000s. That, of course, is up for debate.
