At least in my country (India).Lets say if 555 is available for Rs.20(SMD) then the cost of adapter or PCB itself is around Rs.50, Oh yes. And why would you need to buy a SMD chip with an adapter and use both of them on a though hole PCB when you can buy a PDIP IC? Although if it isn’t represented by a 4 digit code, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t an SMD component, all that means is that you’ll have to do a little more searching to find the dimensions of your specific component.
