None but the world's Creator could multiply the loaves, none but its Governor could tread upon the waters of the sea: the disciples yield to the evidence, and confess their faith. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. 20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And the Lord often lets his servants have their choice, to humble and prove them, and to show the greatness of his power and grace. Herod would profusely reward a worthless dance, while imprisonment and death were the recompence of the man of God who sought the salvation of his soul. Christ bade Peter come, not only that he might walk upon the water, and so know his Lord's power, but that he might know his own weakness. Special supports are promised, and are to be expected, but only in spiritual pursuits; nor can we ever come to Jesus, unless we are upheld by his power. 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. He rebuked Peter.
